world of the Iban Dayak people as we introduce you to a large bronze gong with significant ceremonial significance. This exceptional instrument has been an integral part of various rituals and festive occasions within Iban clan houses.

Embodying the classic style of Borneo gongs, it is distinguished by its central hump and deep edge, creating a distinctive resonance that fills the air with notable melodies. Such gongs are pivotal in Iban cultural practices, where their harmonious sounds play a crucial role in invoking spiritual energies and creating an distinctive ambiance.

Documented images of the Iban people using similar gongs can be found in the renowned publication “Vanishing World” (pp. 130-131), providing a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage and musical traditions of this indigenous community.

Collected in the 1970s by a Swiss traveler from Basel, this gong is not only in excellent condition but also holds a unique feature - it still retains its original chain used for hanging. Many gongs of this kind have lost their chains over time, often replaced with ropes. This exceptional preservation adds to the gong's historical and artistic value.
